چکیده
Abstract In this contribution, a novel framework for simulating mixed-mode failure in rock is presented. Based on hybrid phase-field model fracture, separate variables are introduced tensile (mode I) and shear II) fracture. The resulting three-field problem features length scale parameters mode I II cracks. contrast to the classic two-field approaches, it can thus account different strength of rock. two equations implicitly coupled through degradation material elastic equation, three fields solved using staggered iteration scheme. For its validation, calibrated types rock, Solnhofen Limestone Pfraundorfer Dolostone. To end, double-edge notched Brazilian disk (DNBD) tests performed determine fracture toughness. numerical results demonstrate that proposed able reproduce crack patterns observed DNBD tests. A final example uniaxial compression test rare drill core demonstrates capture complex, 3D when with correct

Effect of Rock Fracture Filling on Mode I and II Fracture Toughness
This paper focuses on some fracture toughness tests performed on the pre-cracked Brazilian specimens of rock-like materials. Also the effect of rock fracture filling on the fracture toughness was considered experimentally. Fracture toughness is a key parameter for studying the crack propagation and fragmentation processes in rock structures. Fracture mechanics is an applicable tool to improve ...
متن کاملPrediction of Mode II of Fracture Toughness in Laminate Composites
In this paper, effects of ply orientation of adjacent plies with (ϕ//θ) interfaces on mode II critical strain energy release rate (fracture toughness) of multidirectional (MD) laminate has been studied. Ply orientation of adjacent plies is one of the most important parameters affects the mode II critical strain energy release rate () in the initiation of the delamination. To study this paramet...
متن کاملFracture in mode I using a conserved phase-field model.
We present a continuum phase-field model of crack propagation. It includes a phase-field that is proportional to the mass density and a displacement field that is governed by linear elastic theory. Generic macroscopic crack growth laws emerge naturally from this model. In contrast to classical continuum fracture mechanics simulations, our model avoids numerical front tracking. The added phase-f...
متن کاملMixed Mode Fracture Toughness of an Adhesive Bonded Joint
Adhesive joints are continuously emerging as candidate to replace traditional fastening systems, such as riveting or welding, in primary structural applications. A wide class of components belonging to electronic, automotive and aerospace industries contains adhesive joints, however, the reliability during service constitutes a major technical problem as these contain flaws. Therefore, their us...
متن کاملA new brittleness index for estimation of rock fracture toughness
Assessment of the correlation between rock brittleness and rock fracture toughness has been the subject of extensive research works in the recent years. Unfortunately, the brittleness measurement methods have not yet been standardized, and rock fracture toughness cannot be estimated satisfactorily by the proposed indices. In the present study, statistical analyses are performed on some data col...
